In line with our pledge, here is the fourth part of a series of actions you can implement right now to flatten the fear curve!

Change Takes Time, and That’s Okay!

Today, we have so much instant gratification readily available at our fingertips from on-demand videos, the internet on our smart-phones, and 1-day free shipping, it is easy to believe that we, as human beings, change instantaneously too!  When we find change does not come about immediately, this belief can lead us to think negatively and believe change is not possible, but change is possible!  Three (3) simple things which WILL help us embrace the time we need to change are listed below.


  1. Our Perception of Time – Time is constant.  The number of seconds in a minute does not change, the number of minutes in an hour does not change, and the number of hours in a day does not change; rather, it is our perception of time which changes.  Typically, we either have too much time or too little time; rarely do we have just the right amount of time.  Embracing time is constant and we CAN choose how we perceive it, WILL help us believe that change is possible!

  2. How We Change – We, as human beings, change by building neural pathways that become stronger each time we engage in what that neural pathway is associated with, such as, driving.  This process takes time.  The longer we have been doing something a certain way the longer we need to build a new neural pathway, while weakening the old one, to create the change we seek.  Understanding how we change WILL help us believe change is possible by knowing we CAN change and there IS a way to do it!

  3. It’s Okay to Take Time! – We’ve changed before and we can change again!  Whether it’s learning a new skill, getting a new job, moving to a new city, or eating healthier, we’ve made many changes in our lives.  Each of those changes took time, and took the right amount of time for us to bring about the change we sought.  Embracing that change DOES take time and it takes the time WE need, WILL help us embrace that change IS possible.
